LACCD Trustee Andra Hoffman Elected to President of the California Community College Trustees

Andra Hoffman, the director of the Career Center at Glendale Community College and a board member for the Los Angeles Community College District, announced her candidacy for California superintendent of public instruction this morning.
Hoffman was formerly an adjunct professor in the political science department at the college.
Hoffman, who lives in Encino, is the immediate past president of the Community College League of California Board of Trustees, has led the National Women’s Political Caucus – San Fernando Valley, and chairs the California Community Colleges Women’s Caucus, among other accomplishments, according to a media release from her campaign.
“California must do better,” Hoffman said in the release. “Teachers are underpaid, overworked, and leaving the profession. Too many students are falling through the cracks, without the basic math and literacy skills needed for job-training and apprenticeship programs in the building trades.
“We must prioritize strong foundational education, safeguard special education, improve graduation rates, and embed climate education and sustainability programs into every grade level.”
Hoffman said she would fight back against President Donald Trump’s efforts to remake education.
“As Superintendent of Public Instruction, I will protect our students, families, teachers, and school employees from Donald Trump’s barbaric assault on public education and guide our schools into a new era of excellence.”
